NET Scheme

Learning English in the NET scheme program at Hennessy Road Government School (CWB) is purposeful and fun.

The LETs and NET work together to provide an environment that is engaging and supports building the confidence of our students to take risks to communicate in English.

The teachers implement a school-based English Language curriculum that embraces DTS (Development of Text Sets), which opens the door for rich multimodal resources that students enjoy out of school into the classroom.

The themes and concepts of the DTS units are derived from the Primary Longman Elect text book topics and draws learning targets and objectives from the English Language Education Key Learning Area Curriculum Guide's strands of experience, knowledge, attitude and values and language skills.

First 100 Days in Primary 1

In this unit, primary students learned crucial skills for navigating their school community. They explored strategies for developing positive relationships, such as making new friends and managing their emotions effectively. During interactive NET lessons, students were taught important values like being part of a caring school environment, making good choices, accepting everyone despite differences, and cultivating a growth mindset. The lessons emphasized the difference between "I can't do it" and "I can't do it yet," encouraging students to persist through challenges and believe in their ability to improve over time. By focusing on social-emotional learning, the unit aimed to equip these young learners with the mindsets and competencies needed to thrive academically, socially, and personally within their inclusive school community.

I am a Responsible Primary 2 Student

In this unit, Primary 2 students explored the concept of being responsible - at home, in school, and within the community. They learned the importance of taking ownership and being accountable as they continue to grow and develop. Through the core text, 'A Chair For My Mother', students were able to identify how being responsible in various aspects of their lives is essential. The story provided a relatable example of how fulfilling responsibilities can make a positive impact. As a culminating activity, the Primary 2 students engaged in a hands-on project where they made origami chairs. This creative task allowed them to apply the lessons they had learned about responsibility and demonstrate their understanding in a tangible way. The unit aimed to instil in these young learners a strong sense of accountability and the ability to recognize their role and duties within different contexts. By highlighting real-world examples and engaging them in meaningful projects, the school equipped the Primary 2 students with a deeper appreciation for responsible behaviour and its far-reaching effects.

Being a‘Leader’at School

In this unit, Primary 3 students explored the concept of leadership and its importance within the school setting. The goal was to help these young learners gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their peers, and the qualities that define an effective leader. Through the activities and lessons in this unit, students learned what leadership entails and how to embody the traits of a good leader. They identified positive characteristics such as responsibility, communication, decision-making, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. A key component of the unit was allowing students to choose a leadership role for themselves. This gave them the opportunity to put the learned principles into practice and demonstrate their leadership capabilities in a real-world context within the school community. By engaging Primary 3 students in this leadership-focused unit, the school aimed to empower them to step up, take initiative, and contribute positively to their immediate environment. The lessons equipped these young learners with the self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and confidence needed to become effective leaders among their peers.

Let's make a leader shield!
